Samsung Photo Editor: How to Edit Photos in Gallery

Gallery is Samsung’s most basic video editor, letting you trim and add simple effects to individual clips, while Studio is more powerful, allowing you to combine multiple clips on a timeline and add transitions and music.

What you’re unlikely to be able to do with the built-in options is add multiple layers of video or use keyframes. And there’s no support for your own LUTs either, if you happen to shoot in Log and want to apply some colour grading.

The apps we’ve rounded up here are ones we thought could offer something extra, whether that’s easier ways of adding captions to clips for social media, or more advanced features such as keyframes and LUT support. All were checked on the US version of Google Play and on developers’ websites as at 5 November 2026.

Samsung’s Gallery app’s built-in video editor is pretty basic. For more advanced editing, there’s Studio (also free). If you want to take video editing to the next level, there are plenty of apps available. KineMaster and InShot place a logo on exported videos unless you shell out. Adobe Premiere and VN are watermark-free options that don’t cost a thing. LumaFusion ($29.99 one-time purchase) can import and grade Log footage and even allows users to load their own LUTs. For speedy captioned videos for social media, CapCut is the way to go.

Keep in mind that these subscription costs can and do change, and Google Play won’t display subscription pricing on its app pages. Instead, each app displays subscription pricing (in your currency) on a screen within the app, so be sure to check that screen before starting a free trial if you don’t want to be charged for a subscription. Pricing current as of November 2026.

Start with Samsung's own editor

Tap the pencil icon after opening a clip in Gallery for options including trimming and adding music. Newer devices also have an Audio eraser function for ridding clips of annoying sounds like wind. For more in-depth editing of multiple videos, use Studio (accessible from Gallery’s menu; checked on a Galaxy S25 Ultra with One UI 9 in November 2026), which can combine up to 60 clips with transitions between them. There’s also an Auto trim option that condenses longer videos into highlights.

That’s as far as Samsung goes with video editing, though. There’s no mention of keyframes or a second video track (useful for picture-in-picture effects), which is where Galaxy users usually turn to third-party apps. Our Samsung video editor guide walks through Gallery and Studio step by step, so this page sticks to the apps worth adding.

Adobe Premiere for free edits without a watermark

As detailed on Adobe’s official page announcing the discontinuation of Premiere Rush, the Rush apps left app stores on 30 September 2025, and Adobe stopped supporting Rush on 30 September 2026.

Meanwhile, Android Authority reported on 22 September that Premiere for Android is out (it hit the iPhone about a year ago). That publication also points out that Adobe Premiere for Android requires Android 13 (or later), and the Play listing asks for a minimum of 5GB of RAM. You can already send projects from Premiere for iPhone to Premiere for desktop, with Premiere for Android to follow “soon,” according to Adobe.

The Premiere for Android Play listing promises unlimited timeline tracks, 4K exports, and ad-free and watermark-free video exports for free. Its only paid element is Adobe Firefly generative AI, after you use up any free credits.

CapCut for fast social clips

CapCut is the most-downloaded video editor here, with over a billion installs on Google Play. It's a powerful video editor for creating TikToks and Reels, with keyframes, chroma key, stabilisation, auto captions, and more.

CapCut’s help centre says it can export without a watermark, except with Pro effects and templates on the free version or if you use a template with a watermark ending (in which case, scroll to the end of the timeline and delete the ending before exporting).

According to its Play listing, CapCut can export up to 4K at 60fps. However, one third-party review (Pixflow, October 2026) says that the free version of CapCut is limited to 1080p. Check before making a lengthy edit whether an export option in the export menu is marked Pro.

Paid-for versions of CapCut (there are two, Pro and Ultra) add premium templates and a monthly allotment of AI credits. Prices vary by region and the website says prices shown are for reference purposes only, so log in to see the prices you'll be offered.

On Samsung's developer website, CapCut is listed as an app that can edit APV HDR videos recorded on the Galaxy S26 Ultra (Log support is listed as coming soon).

CapCut in the US

CapCut is available on Google Play (US) and the app’s Play Store page says it was last updated on 4 November 2026. The developer is still listed as Bytedance Pte. Ltd. Data protection for CapCut and Lemon8 was included in TikTok’s January 2026 announcement about its new US joint venture. CapCut’s plan availability may vary depending on region/country according to CapCut.

VN for free multi-layer edits

VN’s Play Store listing makes no bones about VN having ads and in-app purchases, the latter to unlock additional features such as AI generation tools. Otherwise, though, VN offers pro-level tools for free, according to its website. There’s no watermark. VN’s editing features include a multi-track timeline, masking, keyframe animation, and the ability to grade Log footage shot on Samsung phones (import your own LUTs). And it can export videos in 4K 60fps. There’s even a feature that trims silences and common filler words from videos to help shorten talking-head videos.

If ads get on your nerves in long video editing sessions, and you have a phone with enough memory, Adobe Premiere offers a lot of what VN offers without ads.

LumaFusion for Log footage and LUTs

At the time of writing (November 2026), LumaFusion is the only app here that you pay for up front, costing $29.99 on the US Play Store. It’s feature-packed too, with six tracks for video and six more for audio, video scopes to help with colour work, support for .cube and .3dl LUT files and, if you shoot APV on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, APV editing, according to Samsung’s developer page.

Its Play Store description also touts editing on a monitor via DeX mode. LumaFusion can edit videos straight from a USB-C drive, and this should be useful for clunky 4K files. Speed ramping with enhanced keyframing is available as a one-off add-on purchase, but is also included with LumaFusion’s optional Creator Pass subscription, which also unlocks Storyblocks stock content. Luma Touch says you’ll need a minimum of Android 10 and 3GB of RAM to run LumaFusion, which is also available from the Galaxy Store. Our Samsung Log video guide explains which LUT to load first.

KineMaster and PowerDirector for templates and effects

KineMaster’s site says Premium removes ads and the KineMaster watermark, and you get access to premium assets. The price is in local currency when you get to the purchase screen in the app. Other features mentioned in the app’s Play listing include keyframes and chroma key, exporting video in 4K at 60fps, and AI-powered tools like noise removal and automatic captions.

Like KineMaster, PowerDirector is free to download and shows ads. It also offers a Premium subscription for a fee, which its listing says removes ads and unlocks additional features, such as editing projects in the cloud, stock media from Getty, and automatic captions. Exporting video in 4K depends on your phone’s processor, according to CyberLink’s FAQ page. Neither PowerDirector’s Play listing nor CyberLink’s online support pages state whether free users’ videos include a watermark, so export a 10-second video to find out before committing to a longer project.

InShot for quick vertical edits

Basic editing capabilities are available in the app for free (with ads and in-app purchases), including trimming/clipping, adding music/text, photo collage, picture-in-picture with keyframes, etc.

Note: According to Pixflow’s review (October 2026), videos exported for free will contain an InShot logo in the bottom-right corner, and buying Remove ads won’t get rid of the logo. You need Pro (available as a subscription or one-time/lifetime purchase) for that.

Two free newcomers from Instagram and YouTube

Instagram’s free Edits app specialises in editing and posting Reels, and conveniently has a performance dashboard so you can keep an eye on how your Reels are doing. According to its listing on Play, it can export videos in 4K without watermarks, and offers automatic captions.

Google’s free YouTube Create app has no in-app purchases according to its listing on Play. It allows you to export in up to 4K at 60fps, and features easy uploading to YouTube. Other nifty features include a tool to clean up your audio and beat matching. Some AI-powered features are only available in certain countries.

Galaxy camera settings that make editing easier

  • If your video is HEVC encoded (high efficiency) and the app you're using to edit has problems importing the footage, record your next video using H.264 (most compatible) in Camera settings > Videos > Video format on a Galaxy S25 Ultra (One UI 9).
  • All the third-party apps mentioned above max out at 4K when exporting, so 8K footage comes out at 4K at best. Unless you're planning aggressive cropping, shoot in 4K.
  • Log footage requires a LUT to bring back colour and contrast. Otherwise, it will look flat and desaturated. Samsung added LUT support (with its own LUT) in Gallery on One UI 8.5 and up. LumaFusion and VN support importing LUTs.
  • For manual control while you record, the free Blackmagic Camera app adds shutter angle and a flicker-free shutter setting.
