Best Samsung Phone for Photography in 2026: Every Galaxy Camera Ranked

The Galaxy Z Fold6’s camera setup hasn’t changed much since the Z Fold4, GSMArena notes, with its 50MP main camera sporting a relatively small sensor by today’s standards.

But it’s often sold as a flagship camera phone that can fold in half. Here’s how the common claims hold up against its reviews, and how to get the most out of the Galaxy Z Fold6’s cameras.

The Galaxy Z Fold6's camera system is a 50MP main camera paired with a 3x telephoto camera and 12MP ultrawide camera. While reliable and capable, it's not an Ultra-class camera, since there's neither a 200MP camera nor 5x telephoto camera to be found here. Samsung reused camera hardware from two generations ago on the Galaxy Z Fold4 for the Galaxy Z Fold6, and while it's not the newest and greatest, it's still plenty capable. Buy it for the huge display and Flex mode, and use the rear cameras for selfies.

All findings were gathered from GSMArena’s and DXOMARK’s published tests as well as Samsung’s own documentation (we indicate which source backs up which finding). We have not tested the Fold6 ourselves.

Claims about the Fold6 camera, tested against the reviews

It's an Ultra-class camera in a foldable

In terms of performance, the Fold6 scored 130 under the DXOMARK camera testing protocol v5, edging out the Flip6’s 129. DXOMARK concluded that, while the Fold6’s camera performs well for a foldable, the best conventional phones in the same price range can still take better photos and videos.

The Fold6 has no 200MP main camera or 5x telephoto, and tops out at 3x before digital zoom. GSMArena’s bottom line: if cameras are your top consideration, get the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which has a much stronger camera.

The cameras are new for 2024

GSMArena noted that the camera setup has barely changed over three generations of Folds since the Fold4, calling it one of the phone’s drawbacks. Its telephoto is the same as the last two Folds and the (non-Ultra) S22, S23 and S24 (an earlier iteration of this page erroneously said the Ultra versions of those phones).

Photo quality is still good

In GSMArena’s daylight tests, images from the main camera were detailed and natural-looking with excellent dynamic range and accurate white balance. Images captured using the 50MP mode were among the better ones GSMArena has seen. Images from the telephoto camera were occasionally a little hazy or inaccurately focused (likely an issue with its test unit only, according to GSMArena), but detailed when in focus.

DXOMARK praised good exposure and low noise in bright light. Indoors and in low light, images had some noticeable noise, though. Autofocus also had its share of problems in dim light.

The inner camera is fine for selfies

GSMArena describes the shots as “soft”, noting a distinct crosshatch pattern in images from the 4MP under-display camera, and suggests its best use will be as a last resort camera for making video calls.

Photos from the 10MP cover camera are decent but over-sharpened. Best results come from taking selfies with the rear cameras, using the cover screen as a viewfinder.

The folding design helps your photos

Without propping it up or resorting to a tripod, the half-unfurled Galaxy Z Fold6 in Flex mode forms a stable base for taking photos in dim conditions and long captures.

Its 7.6-inch display is great for zooming in to check focus, and the S Pen support comes in handy for making accurate edits.

One UI 8.5 isn’t skipping the Z Fold6, which means its revamped Photo Assist editing suite runs on the big screen.

GSMArena also says the Fold6’s video stabilisation is “excellent across the board” but comments that detail is “only so-so” – particularly when shooting at 30fps. So 4K60 is the better all-rounder. The Fold6 is on Samsung's Expert RAW list, which covers every Z Fold from the Fold2, and our Expert RAW guide explains the RAW workflow. For still scenes in dim light, a slower shutter speed may be advantageous; our Night mode guide has you covered! Our Fold6 settings page has more starting values depending on the case.

Updates in 2026

When it launched with Android 14, Samsung committed to providing the Fold6 with seven generations of Android updates. According to SamMobile, the first rollout of the third upgrade, stable One UI 9 based on Android 17, started in October 2026 in South Korea and then followed in other regions. This means that Samsung will keep supporting the Fold6 into the early 2030s.

Who the Fold6 suits, and the alternatives

If you’re into photography and not concerned about using your phone as a mini tablet, get a slab Ultra as you’ll get better cameras for your money.

On the other hand, if most of your photos are within 3x and you’ll use the larger screen a lot for reading/editing etc., go for the discounted Fold6.

  • The Galaxy Z Fold7’s cameras include a 200MP f/1.7 main camera, 10MP 3x telephoto camera and 12MP ultrawide camera, according to GSMArena.
  • The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra adds a 50MP ultrawide alongside its 200MP main camera and 3x telephoto, whereas the broader Fold8 sacrifices the telephoto plus Flex mode.
  • The Galaxy S25 Ultra gives you a 200MP main camera and a 5x telephoto in a slab phone.
  • The Galaxy Z Flip6 is the smaller 2024 foldable, with the same 50MP main camera and no telephoto.
Is the Galaxy Z Fold6 camera as good as the S24 Ultra's?+
GSMArena found the S24 Ultra’s camera to be far superior. Aside from missing out on a 200MP main camera and 5x telephoto, the Galaxy Z Fold6’s imaging hardware has seen almost no changes since the Galaxy Z Fold4.
Does the Galaxy Z Fold6 have a telephoto camera?+
There’s a 10MP 3x telephoto with optical stabilisation. According to GSMArena, it’s the same telephoto camera as the last two Folds, and even the regular S22, S23 and S24.
What's the best way to take selfies on the Fold6?+
You’d best use the phone’s rear cameras with the cover screen as a viewfinder. The under-display 4MP shooter GSMArena tested was quite soft, and the 10MP cover camera was over-sharpened.
Does the Galaxy Z Fold6 support Expert RAW?+
It’s in Samsung’s Expert RAW list, starting with the Z Fold2. Astrophoto and Multiple exposure need 12MP with Special photo options enabled.
Samsung Photography Academy has 60+ short 5-minute lessons. They’re available on all Galaxy phones (even foldables!) and have been taken by 47,000+ students. Folding screens are great for framing and editing. But, in the end, it’s your habits that make the difference.
