Samsung hasn’t yet announced when it will unveil the Galaxy S27 Ultra, nor has it given us any insight as to when we can expect to see the next Galaxy Unpacked event. However, according to a rumour from Korean tipster Lanzuk, who posts as yeux1122 on Naver, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may arrive next year as early as January 2027, or February 2027 at the latest. This would mean that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will hit stores around a month earlier than the Galaxy S26 Ultra did this year. Samsung announced the Galaxy S26 Ultra on February 25, 2026.

Unless otherwise noted, all rumours listed here are sourced from a specific publication or leaker and include the date of the rumor. None of the rumours have been confirmed by Samsung. We’ll be sure to update this page with more information once Samsung sends out invitations for its next Galaxy Unpacked event. For the camera rumours on their own, see our S27 Ultra camera rumours page.

Tipster Lanzuk expects the Galaxy S27 Ultra to make an appearance at a Galaxy Unpacked event in January (or at the latest in February) 2027. Other leaks point to a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, 60W charging support, a 5,700mAh battery and three cameras at the back (instead of four). Tipster @phonefuturist puts the US starting price at $1,399, a $100 price hike over the Galaxy S26 Ultra's launch price.

When will the Galaxy S27 Ultra be released?

Lanzuk’s post, as translated by Digital Trends on October 19, 2026, says the major components of the Galaxy S27 series have been finalised and the phones are “currently scheduled for release next January, or February at the latest.” Samsung has not confirmed a January launch yet, so consider that a goal for now, per Digital Trends.

Korean industry reports covered by GSMArena on October 16 indicated that Samsung will start mass-producing the Galaxy S27 series toward the end of 2026, getting them ready for its traditional launch window in February or March.

The company’s most recent Unpacked events suggest phones have made their way into the hands of the first lucky owners as little as a week and as much as two and a half weeks after Samsung’s launch event over the last six years.

If Samsung holds to January, the S27 Ultra could make it into stores by early February 2027, based on the pattern we laid out above.

If Samsung slips its Unpacked event into February, don’t be surprised if the S27 Ultra lands in stores sometime between late February and March. Again, this is just our estimation.

At this point in time, no leak gives us an exact date.

How much will the Galaxy S27 Ultra cost?

Tipster @phonefuturist shared potential US prices for the entire range in October 2026. According to the tipster, the S27 Ultra will have a starting price of $1,399 in the US and could reach $1,499 for certain configurations.

These are currently considered price targets, and Samsung may change its mind before officially launching the new phones (via Android Central, October 9).

Tipster @phonefuturist gives two possible US prices for the Ultra, $1,399 and $1,499. Elsewhere the same tipster puts it at $1,499 to $1,549, except South Korea, which would get the same prices as the US (via Digit, October 9).

So if you’ve seen $1,500 in a YouTube roundup, that’s not necessarily inaccurate, but $1,399 is the price most reports lead with.

Galaxy S27 Ultra$1,399M16 OLED
Preliminary targets from tipster @phonefuturist, via Android Central, October 9, 2026. Samsung hasn't confirmed them.

This would mark a $100 price hike from the $1,299.99 (256GB) we saw with the S26 Ultra at launch, although that phone’s US price has since increased to $1,399.99 as of October 1, 2026. The S26 Ultra release date and price page has the whole price list. There are no leaked S27 prices for the UK or the rest of Europe, but remember that memory prices have increased significantly this year (2026), which Android Central points out could further influence pricing.

What the camera changes mean for your photos

Ice Universe had previously tipped back in April that Samsung would ditch the 10MP 3x telephoto camera on the Galaxy S27 Ultra, leaving a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera and 50MP 5x periscope telephoto camera. ETNews reported the same in August 2026, saying the aim was to cut costs (via 9to5Google, August 3).

Rumours in late August suggested that the 5x camera on the Galaxy S27 Ultra could be replaced with a 4x camera utilising a bigger 1/1.9-inch sensor, but Ice Universe described this as “100% false” on September 14.

Roland Quandt agreed two days later, claiming that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will keep on using a 50MP 5x telephoto camera with a sensor from Sony, just like its predecessor.

If the 3x camera isn’t present, images taken at 3x will be crops from the 200MP sensor, meaning that, while crops will use only around a ninth of the sensor (approximately 22 megapixels), this would still result in an image with more pixels than the 12-megapixel images the phone would save by default. Such images should work well in bright conditions, but how well they perform in poorer lighting will come down to Samsung’s image processing, and we won’t know how effective that is until review units become available. Our S26 Ultra zoom guide explains how the current lenses and crops fit together, and 12MP vs 50MP vs 200MP covers when the extra pixels help.

Meanwhile, Ice Universe said on September 29 that images from the phone are expected to have a warmer colour temperature than we saw on previous Ultra models, small bright highlights in the distance should be better controlled when using the main and 5x cameras, and low-light images should have less noticeable noise and smoother results in dark areas. The phone’s main camera is rumoured to use Samsung’s ISOCELL HP6 sensor, and the selfie camera could see a bump from 12 to 16 megapixels, with the addition of autofocus, according to Roland Quandt.

For photographers, the more interesting rumour is LOFIC. In March, Android Authority reported a claim from Digital Chat Station that Samsung is working on a 200MP ISOCELL HPA sensor with LOFIC, a type of sensor/pixel design that captures more dynamic range by retaining additional data from extremely bright regions instead of clipping highlights. Nothing has been confirmed regarding LOFIC in the S27 Ultra, but if the HP6 is indeed a version of the ISOCELL HPA (still with a 1/1.3-inch sensor size), it could help the main camera capture both extremely bright skies and faces in shadow in a single exposure without clipping highlights or heavy ghosting from HDR frame-stacking when there’s movement.

WinFuture (via SamMobile, July 24) also claims that the S27 Ultra will switch to a 50MP Sony IMX855 sensor for the ultrawide camera.

Rumoured upgrades that probably won’t happen

Don’t count on a variable aperture, either. In August, ETNews said that Samsung had tested variable-aperture camera modules from Samsung Electro-Mechanics and MCNEX but would not be including them in any S27 phone due to their higher price and the fact that they add thickness to the camera assembly (via SamMobile). The company’s testing apparently showed only minor improvements in image quality. The last phones with dual-aperture main cameras were the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S10.

So you’ll still be getting closer to your subject or using Portrait mode to achieve background blur.

Face unlock likely won’t get an upgrade either, since reports suggest Samsung is unlikely to include Polar ID on the S27 Ultra. Polar ID, from Metalenz, detects polarised light, making it harder to fool with photos or masks. Leaker kro said in a September post that there’s no sign Samsung plans Polar ID (or any other new face unlock hardware) for the S27 Ultra (via Android Headlines).

As such, we’d expect the S27 Ultra to use the same camera-based face unlock and ultrasonic fingerprint sensor as the S26 Ultra.

Which chip will the S27 Ultra use?

The chip in the S27 Ultra is far from settled, with new claims surfacing every few weeks. In July, the latest rumour claimed that the Ultra will get Snapdragon processors in all regions.

In early September, however, insiders claimed that Samsung was building Exynos 2700-based Galaxy S27 Ultra variants for sale in Korea and Europe.

On October 16, Korean outlet SEDaily reported that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 was overheating in Samsung’s tests, a claim that Qualcomm promptly denied.

Earlier, on October 11, an insider tip claimed that all Galaxy S27 Ultra models will feature Snapdragon chips.

And on November 6, tipster yeux1122 shared a new rumour claiming that Samsung will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 in the Galaxy S27 Ultra even in its home market of South Korea, to cut costs.

For now, most Galaxy S27 Ultra leaks point to the phone getting Snapdragon processors in all regions, but Samsung has yet to confirm anything.

Design, display and battery

In terms of battery, it looks like the clearest upgrade. According to a 3C certification spotted in China back in September, the S27 Ultra’s battery has a rated capacity of 5,534mAh, which GSMArena expects Samsung to advertise as 5,700mAh (typical). Every Ultra since the Galaxy S20 Ultra has had a 5,000mAh battery, so this would be a 700mAh (14%) increase. Wired charging is rumoured to remain the same at 60W. Elsewhere, Ice Universe claims the S27 Ultra will weigh in at 218g, just 4g heavier than the S26 Ultra.

On the front, the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra are expected to feature Samsung’s M16 OLED, which ETNews first reported on September 14 would deliver improved brightness and energy efficiency. According to Ice Universe, bezels will measure 1.28mm, slightly thicker than the 1.15mm bezels of the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Otherwise, the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s front should look pretty much identical to its predecessor. Speaking of improvements, brighter displays for better outdoor visibility and an enhanced version of Privacy Display are also reportedly in the cards, both according to SamMobile on November 3.

On the rear, a dummy Galaxy S27 Ultra unit made using leaked CAD renders from August depicts a full-width camera housing reminiscent of the one Apple introduced on the iPhone 17 Pro, though the lenses will remain on the left. GSMArena's November 3 report gives the dummy's size as 163.76 x 78.25 x 7.97mm, virtually identical to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. GSMArena also points out that S26 Ultra cases won’t be compatible thanks to the redesigned camera housing. There’s good news for S Pen fans, because the slot will remain. Meanwhile, Tom’s Guide reports magnets for Qi2 will be integrated into the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra so magnetic chargers and accessories can be used without having to purchase a special case.

Where the new Galaxy S27 Pro fits

There’s also a Galaxy S27 Pro that will slot in between the S27+ and Ultra models, according to the leaks we’ve seen so far. It’s basically a smaller Ultra according to GSMArena and will apparently feature the same M16 display and Privacy Display as the Ultra.

It’s said to have a 5,200mAh battery (5,087mAh rated capacity) with 60W charging and to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. Pricing is said to start at $1,299 in the US.

If the size of the Ultra isn’t for you, this might be the phone for you. We don’t know much about the cameras at this time so we’ll have to wait for more leaks on that front.

Should you buy the S26 Ultra now or wait?

If your handset’s still going strong, you should hold on and see how things shake out. Three or four months from now, we’ll know whether the $1,399 price tag rumoured for the S27 Ultra is accurate, which would be the same price that the S26 Ultra is currently going for in the US, and whether the lack of a 3x camera has any bearing on your decision. Buying an S26 Ultra at full retail now would amount to paying next year’s predicted price for this year’s model.

It may still make sense to buy the S26 Ultra now if it’s heavily discounted, or if you’re someone who makes use of the 3x camera, since the S27 Ultra reportedly won’t have one. If you’re upgrading from an S23 Ultra or anything older, either one is going to be a big upgrade for you. Our S26 Ultra camera guide covers the current model’s cameras in more detail.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Galaxy S27 Ultra coming out?+
No official timing has been given from Samsung, but Korean tipster Lanzuk claims that the launch will happen during January 2027, or by February at the very latest. Typically, Samsung’s Ultra models have been available to purchase from one to two and a half weeks after the Unpacked event.
How much will the Galaxy S27 Ultra cost?+
A leaked early US target from tipster @phonefuturist would see the device start at $1,399. That’s $100 more than the S26 Ultra’s launch price and the same price Samsung has been selling the S26 Ultra for in the US since October 1, 2026. It could reach as high as $1,499 in certain configurations.
Will the Galaxy S27 Ultra have a 3x telephoto camera?+
Probably not. Ice Universe and ETNews say that Samsung will ditch the 10MP 3x camera, resulting in a setup with a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera and 50MP 5x telephoto camera. 3x images will be digitally cropped from the main camera.
Will the Galaxy S27 Ultra have a variable aperture?+
Probably not. ETNews reported in August 2026 that variable-aperture camera modules are not expected to appear in the Galaxy S27 series. Samsung reportedly tested variable-aperture camera modules, but decided against adopting them since they add cost and thickness, and didn’t improve image quality by much.
Will the S27 Ultra have a bigger battery?+
Probably. China’s 3C battery certification indicates a rated capacity of 5,534mAh, which will probably be marketed as 5,700mAh, up from the 5,000mAh battery in the S26 Ultra. Wired charging is expected to remain unchanged at 60W.
Will the Galaxy S27 Ultra still have an S Pen?+
Yes. According to GSMArena, the dummy unit that was put together using leaked CAD files has a slot for the S Pen. Apparently Samsung tested a prototype with a 7,000mAh battery but went with a smaller battery in order to keep the S Pen.
