Best Samsung Galaxy A55 Camera Settings
A stabilised 50MP main camera with Pro and Pro video modes, and One UI 9 since October 2026.
Published ·Last updated
The Galaxy A55 has a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide and a 5MP macro, and reviewers found it good in daylight and solid at night once Night mode kicks in. Its 2x crop and its ultra-wide after dark are the weak spots. These settings play to the main camera and keep you away from the rest.

Settings to change first
| Setting | Recommended value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Grid lines | On | The grid helps you level horizons and place subjects. |
| Auto HDR | On | It keeps detail in bright skies and backlit faces. |
| Scene optimizer | On for quick shares, off for natural colour | Turn it off if food and skin look heavier than in real life. |
| Video stabilization | On | GSMArena rated the A55's stabilised 4K among the best in its price range. |
| microSD card | Add one if you film a lot of 4K | The hybrid tray takes a card of up to 1TB. |
Settings by situation
Everyday and travel
GSMArena found main-camera daylight photos detailed, with excellent dynamic range and accurate exposure.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lens | 1x for most scenes, 0.6x for big views in daylight | GSMArena found the ultra-wide excellent by day and noisy and soft after dark. |
| Zoom | Walk closer before you use 2x | The 2x crop looked noisy and fuzzy next to 1x in daylight testing. |
| Resolution | Default, or 50MP for bright static scenes | Higher resolution needs plenty of light. |
| Exposure | Pull it down slightly for bright skies | Protecting the sky is easier than fixing it later. |
| Motion photo | On for people | It saves a short clip around the shot, so you can pick a better frame in Gallery. |
Portraits
Use the main camera for people, and skip the macro camera.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lens | 1x in Portrait mode | It's the sharpest and best-stabilised camera on the phone. |
| Blur strength | Below the maximum | Edges around hair look more natural. |
| Selfies | 32MP front camera in good light | It also records 4K at 30fps for video calls and vlogs. |
| Group shots | Timer with the phone braced | Everyone gets a few seconds to settle before the shot. |
Low light and night
SamMobile found the A55 doesn't always switch to Night mode when it would help.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Mode | Night mode, chosen yourself | GSMArena found Night mode shots clean and natural. Our Night mode guide covers when to use it. |
| Lens | 1x only | The ultra-wide turns noisy and soft after dark. |
| Steadiness | Brace the phone until the capture finishes | A still phone gives Night mode a sharper result. |
| Pro mode | Low ISO, with the phone on a support | Manual ISO and exposure let you keep a night scene looking dark. |
Action, kids and pets
DXOMARK marked the A55 down for weaker autofocus tracking on moving subjects.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Focus | Tap where the action will happen before it arrives | Pre-focusing beats waiting for tracking to catch up. Our AE/AF lock guide shows how to hold it. |
| Light | Shoot outdoors or by a window | More light gives a faster shutter and less blur. |
| Burst | Swipe the shutter button down | Check what Swipe Shutter button to is set to in Camera settings. |
Video
The A55 records 4K at 30fps from both the main and ultra-wide cameras.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday clips | 4K at 30fps, stabilisation on | It's the highest setting the rear cameras offer. |
| Walking | Walk slowly and smoothly | DXOMARK rated stabilisation good when standing still and ineffective while walking. |
| Manual control | Pro video mode | SamMobile's review lists Pro modes for photos and video. |
| Long clips | Free up space first, or add a microSD card | 4K fills internal storage quickly. |
Editing
The A55 has no Expert RAW, and GSMArena and SamMobile found no Galaxy AI features at launch.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Photo edits | Gallery editor, or Lightroom mobile and Snapseed | Light edits to the JPEG go a long way. Our photo editor guide covers Gallery's tools. |
| RAW files | Not available through Expert RAW | Samsung's Expert RAW list doesn't include any A-series phone. |
| Circle to Search | Long press the navigation bar | Samsung's Mexico newsroom announced it for the A55 in September 2024. |
Menu paths on the A55
The A55 launched on One UI 6.1 with a promise of four Android upgrades. One UI 8.5 reached it in May and June 2026, and Android Authority reported stable One UI 9 (Android 17) rolling out in South Korea on 21 October 2026, which makes it the A55's third upgrade. Samsung hasn't published an A55 camera page for One UI 9, so the paths below describe where settings usually sit, and some names may match the flagship ones.
| What you want | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Grid | Camera settings > General > Grid lines or Composition guide |
| Scene optimizer | Camera settings > Intelligent features |
| Burst gesture | Camera settings > Swipe Shutter button to |
| Stabilisation and HEVC | Camera settings > Videos |
| Night, Pro and Pro video | Mode strip > More |

Frequently asked questions
What are the best camera settings for the Galaxy A55?+
Use the 1x main camera with Auto HDR and grid lines on, and turn on Night mode yourself in dim light. Walk closer instead of using the 2x crop, and record 4K at 30fps with stabilisation on.
Does the Galaxy A55 have Expert RAW?+
Expert RAW doesn't support the A55, or any A-series phone on Samsung's list. Pro mode gives you manual control in the built-in camera.
Can the A55 shoot 4K video?+
It records 4K at 30fps from both the main and ultra-wide cameras. There's no 4K at 60fps or 8K mode.
Is the Galaxy A55 camera still good in 2026?+
It's good for the price in daylight, with detailed main-camera photos and clean Night mode shots. Its 2x crop and its ultra-wide after dark are weaker, and the newer Galaxy A56 gets updates for longer.
Does the Galaxy A55 take a microSD card?+
The SIM tray takes a microSD card of up to 1TB, which helps if you shoot a lot of 4K video. It's a hybrid tray, so the card uses the second nano-SIM slot.
Does the Galaxy A55 get One UI 9?+
Android Authority reported stable One UI 9 rolling out to the A55 in South Korea on 21 October 2026. It's the third of the four Android upgrades Samsung promised.
